A New Page

It is with great sadness that I am writing this post. In two weeks I will be graduating college and turning a new leaf. While this blog, GirlMeetsYarn, was started in 2012 with the encouragement to “build my own brand” around my creative, crafty pursuits, over time it has become less of a priority. It has grown with me over the years and allowed me to explore my writing capabilities. I have not lost my interest in knitting (or crocheting which I just recently dived into) but I don’t have the time or interest to continue upkeeping this blog. So, with that being said this will be the last post on GirlMeetsYarn. If you would like to continue following my yarn work, I post WIPs and FOs frequently on instagram (@haiitsvi).

Thank you to all my readers! I know there’s a handful of you that interact regularly with my increasingly rare posts. Thanks for reading and craft on!

Sky Scarf Saturday 11/22/2014

The last time I did a Sky Scarf Saturday was August… Now there’s only about one month and one week left in 2014. Let’s see what’s been going on! It’s gotten so long that it’s difficult to capture it all in one image.

I tried.

All in one!

One month left! I can’t wait to wear it… except I’m going to be in Southeast Asia in January on study abroad (which I’ll be starting a new blog for, so watch out for it). It’s going to be summer there! I’ll have to wait until I come back to winter in February to don my new 2014 Sky Scarf!

Am I a Real Artist Now?

A couple weeks ago I was contacted by a fellow UD student about exhibiting my knitting and crochet at a student showcase for a new club here. He told he was googling and found my blog. Super cool, right?!?

I’m going to have a an awesome poster of my past projects (well, I need to make still it but I imagine it’d be awesome) and will be doing a live and interactive crochet demo.

If you are in the Newark, DE area, stop by the first ever DIP Project Showcase. Saturday May 10th!

Facebook event details.

P.S. Allergies suck.

P.S.S. I haven’t been here much because I’ve been focusing on my new blog, 31 Poems of AAPIHM, poems for Asian American Heritage Month.

New Direction

As regular readers may have noticed, I’ve been posting less and less about knitting and more and more about my personal life and thoughts.

I debated over starting yet another blog where I would publish my more personal posts but I decided that instead of doing that I would just change the focus of this blog. Part of the business student inside of me says this is bad marketing by not catering to my target audience, but in the end, this is my blog. Girl Meets Yarn is my story and adventure into the world of e-commerce, tech, and entrepreneurship and although I have decided to stop working on and developing my Etsy and Storenvy brands, I haven’t stopped being Girl Meets Yarn.

Girl Meets Yarn has taken on a whole new meaning to me. At first, it was an outlet for me to be outspoken about something I loved. Through trying new knitting techniques and even trying new crafting methods I began to experiment with my personal development. It led me to sneak out in the night to yarn bomb my college campus. It led me to co-found and become the President of our knitting and crochet student organization. I list the URL of this blog on my resume and list owning my Etsy shop as work experience and it has led me to have great networking and interview experiences. I am able to apply business concepts that I learn in school to how my own entrepreneurial ventures turned out. Somewhere along the way I have found a voice and am not afraid to speak out on other issues I feel are important. And people have told me that my views affected them in some way. It’s all I could wish for, to say something that I feel so alone about and have it resonate with someone else.

So I would like to welcome you to my new About page and invite you along to my new journey.
